amateur theatre group was the name chosen by Andrew James Murphy to release the album races 1990 - 2021, which comprised nine songs written across a decade previous but never completed. Its warm reception led to further releases including two EPs and a number of singles.
Though most of amateur theatre group’s music is performed, recorded and produced by Murphy himself, it continues to be an open collective that could not exist without the copious and luminous talents of brothers Davy and Iain Berryman.
amateur theatre group's debut album was released in September 2021, with a follow-up four-track EP, titled ep1, coming out in March 2022. By now residing in Wales, in 2023, Murphy released Yearning when i sleep, a double A-side raising money for a pair of local domestic abuse charities, before the singles bloom and agitator that summer.
wake up, doldrums was the second EP by amateur theatre group, seeing in the New Year, which included a fourth track on its cassette release, coda, now available digitally and for streaming.
