Ernest Aines

Ernest Aines is an Australian Folk Artist of the Year 2023 Nominee and an award-winning alt-folk/Americana Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne. Ernests' soulful voice brings songs that belie his age with lyrical expressionism that draws comparisons to the work of Ray LaMontagne, Bon Iver, Jeff Buckley, and on more recent releases, Nick Drake.
Considered by industry folk to be Australia's Folk rising star, he is getting the attention he deserves worldwide. Invited to play at the world's largest and most prestigious folk conference - Folk Alliance International - Kansas City, Missouri in February 2023 - and represented Sounds Australia at the Library of Congress invite show. There, he wowed audiences and received standing ovations. After Ernest’s performance at the 2023 FAI official showcase, American Folk legend and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Tom Paxton dashed backstage making a beeline to Ernest, and shaking him by the shoulders exclaiming, "Where have you been!! Keep doing this, keep doing this!”.
Ernest continues to enjoy critical success that has seen him tour Ireland and the UK, invited to play at the iconic Matt Molloy’s in Westport Ireland, play sell-out shows in the UK, and play festivals there this summer.
His debut album, “Spiral Bound”, released at the end of 2023, quickly earned accolades from critics for its “exceptional lyricism”, “instrumental genius” and “boundless creativity”. Australian Roots bible, Rhythms Magazine, described it as “a remarkable debut album” with a quality that is “universal, borderless and timeless”.
“Aines is a true contemporary master of the folk music form…In terms of genres, across the ten songs on this remarkable debut album, Aines has managed to weave elements of everyone from Peter Gabriel to Donovan to Art Garfunkel in a sonic tapestry that is just breathtaking…
‘Lady In Waiting’ is folk/madrigal/Gabriel-era Genesis/Fotheringay/Fairport/Steeleye all wrapped up in wonderfulness. From spare to sumptuous, delicate to anthemic, Spiral Bound deserves to be heard. Aines may be Australian, but he has created something universal, borderless, and timeless” MICHAEL GEORGE SMITH, RHYTHMS MAGAZINE
The new album has amassed high rotation on Australia’s Public Broadcaster ABC Country and ABC DoubleJ, and internationally on BBC Sounds, BBC Wales, Brum Radio Birmingham, Deal Radio UK, and Canadian College Radio and USA stations.
“Ernest Aines is a dexterous guitarist and brilliant vocalist” Henry Wagons, ABC Double J, Tower of Song
