Mat Hunsley

As a folk singer-songwriter from North Tyneside, Mat has been immersed in music since 2012, balancing his passion with a career as a GP in the NHS. His autobiographical and honest songs reflect his life experiences and observations. In 2016, Mat released my debut EP 'To Being Free', praised by critics from The Line of Best Fit, Drowned in Sound, and Clash. It garnered attention on BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, accumulating over 830,000 streams.

Despite initial success, Mat had much to learn as a songwriter. In hindsight, he was desperate for mentorship and without this, burnt out. His family and career became the only focus and he barely picked up the guitar for over 4 years. However, in 2022, he returned with 'A Worrier's Dream', a self-produced, self-released EP and the product of a more mature and seasoned songwriter. Like 'To Being Free' before it, A Worrier's Dream quickly gained traction, reaching 94,000 streams and receiving further local radio airplay. Mat followed this was an enchanting live EP featuring acoustic versions from 'A Worrier's Dream' and a new single, 'Just The Family Inside'.

Now in 2024, Mat has honed his skill and confidence as a songwriter, embraced the DIY ethos, and developed competence in various aspects of being an independent artist, including recording, production, and mixing. He is currently in receipt of the PRS Open Fund to support the recording of a debut album, marking a significant milestone in his musical journey.
