Slow Worm Records is a relatively new label based in London, created by musician and producer Tom Moore. Since 2019 we have specialised in releasing folk, trad, experimental, improvised and electro-acoustic music, often taking influence from English folk music and
traditions.
This year we are very excited to have put together a 90min takeover of the Den at Cambridge Folk Festival. This will take the form of a concert showcasing 3 artists from the label. Featuring performances from:
Paddi Benson, Grace Lemon, James Patrick Gavin & Tim Fairhall
Grace Lemon and Paddi Benson are two gifted Uilleann pipers who joined forces with James Patrick Gavin, an acclaimed fiddle player and guitarist, to explore the interlocking sounds of two pipes and write new music underpinned by narrative threads. Their debut project, ‘volume one – a curious dance’, was released in September 2023. An original composition, this project reflects a shared interest in experimental and electronic music, as well as the tradition of storytelling – and folklore – within Irish music, as where they met.
Dave Malkin & Louis Campbell
Two highly respected London-based guitarists, Dave Malkin and Louis Campbell have teamed up to make the first in a triptych of EPs exploring how ancient traditional English music can be arranged with modern perspectives. Both donning steel-strung acoustics, they captured the natural sound of both instruments in a lush acoustic. Now you can hear the duo perform these arrangements live.
Tom Moore & Archie Moss
Whilst intrinsically borrowing from English and other European traditional dance form, sonically Moore and Moss have their heads firmly in the present, understanding the values of contemporary music and art making. The combination of Moore’s viola, Moss’s diatonic button accordion creates a familiarly folk sound, which they distort with the introduction of live electronics. The distinct pulse and intuition of trad-music haunts their playing as they continue to quietly reconsider English instrumental music, listening and responding to the world around them as much as their musical ancestors
