Baz Luhrmann helped adapt this classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy for the screen, updating the setting to a post-modern city named Verona Beach. In this version, the Capulets and the Montagues are two rival gangs. Juliet (Claire Danes) is attending a costume ball thrown by her parents. Her father Fulgencio Capulet (Paul Sorvino) has arranged her marriage to the boorish Paris (Paul Rudd) as part of a strategic investment plan. Romeo attends the masked ball and he and Juliet fall in love.
“Director Baz Luhrmann's whirling dervish adaptation of the classic tale of "Romeo & Juliet" is replete with glowing surfaces, quick-cutting action, and a soundtrack that bites.” - Common Sense Media
Enchanted Cinema is back for its 5th-year of inner-city cinematic magic. They return this year to one of their favourite venues, The Gonville Hotel’s magical gardens, in the centre of our beautiful city.
Well have the bar open and fully stocked, full of Cambridge's independent suppliers (and sterilized) - so please, continue to leave the picnic at home and let us take care of the drinks and nibbles for the evening.
These guys are all about creating an original and vibrant cinema scene that offers an exciting way to watch a great film. Expect to be wowed by a short film before each screening, magical light installations and live music from local artists. These events are set to be the most magical of the summer.
Seating will be placed in bookings for the moment being, an arrangement of the bookings will be awaiting in the evening. We operate the evening on a first come first serve basis. We are a rain or shine event so if the Great British weather surprises us and the skies open, the event will go ahead so make sure you bring warm and waterproof clothes (just in case).
Sit back in a deckchair, fresh popcorn and a drink in hand, and experience cinema as you never have before this summer…
